About DKDM

Study programmes

The Academy offers a three-year bachelor programme, a two-year masters programme, advanced post graduate diploma lasting from two to four years, and various post-graduate programmes. The Academy also offers PhD programmes in co-operation with Danish and foreign universities.

Denmark has signed the Bologna declaration, which aims to harmonize the different educational systems.

We have introduced the three-cycle system, with bachelor and masters programmes. In the third cycle, higher education programmes in music currently include the advanced post graduate diploma, which is a post-master study programme at the highest level of artistic, creative and performance education in Denmark.

The advanced post graduate diploma is comparable to what other countries term an artistic PhD. The post graduate diploma must be recognized as the artistic part of this kind of PhD.

Specially adapted study programmes for international students

We try to ensure that the programmes we offer are as relevant as possible to all our students. Therefore we offer specially-adapted courses for students from outside the EU/EEA. During the first weeks of the semester DKDM’s international students are invited to a meeting with the relevant head of studies and faculty members to make an individual study plan.

The individual study plan aims to design a study programme suited for international students who will continue their professional career on an international labour market.

Musical centre in Copenhagen

Our house is a unique place for young music students. As a student at the Royal Danish Academy of Music you will spend your everyday in a house that encompasses all parts of the Copenhagen musical scene.

The Academy is housed together with Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra, and a number of other specialized ensembles. This creates a natural link between student life and the professional music life.
