Cooperations

RDAM cooperates with many partners and institutions both regionally, nationally and internationally. The cooperation is mostly centred on the academic disciplines, i.e. artistic work, pedagogical work or research. Also, administrative procedures are part of these cooperations. The cooperation can be on an institutional level, or it can be purely project-based.

In Denmark, we have a long tradition for natural and important cooperation between all the music academies.

The Royal Danish Academy of Music has as something new entered into a special, mutually binding cooperation agreement with The Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen to strengthen the quality of the study programmes of our academies so that we together can continue to offer elitist programmes at a high international level within the joint spectrum of classical and rhythmic study programmes.

It is also of great importance that more cross-cutting cooperation with the other educational institutions under the Ministry of Culture within KUR (Principals of the Ministry of Culture) is ongoing, as well as the cooperation with several of the Danish universities, one of them within the Danish Network for Music Teaching Research.

The cooperation with The Royal Theatre on the running of the Opera Academy holds a special position, and an annual co-production takes place in January. The Academy also collaborates with the Danish Broadcasting Corporation and Danish symphony orchestras, choirs and ensembles - particularly with Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra (Copenhagen Phil).

Copenhagen Phil has its winter residence in the Academy’s concert hall, and we have entered into a special rent and cooperation agreement. RDAM has, in addition, important regional cooperation relations with music schools and MGK’s as a special part of the Academy’s junior strategy.

RDAM also collaborates with Copenhagen Tourist Board "Wonderful Copenhagen" and Tivoli and culture and music festivals such as Golden Days and Nordic Music Days. Finally, the Academy also hosts its own festivals, such as the Copenhagen International Organ Festival 2009, The Chopin Festival, PULSAR, and debut festival (including other region participants).

RDAM's international cooperation is structured through participation in regional and global networks; the European Association for Conservatories (AEC), Nordplus – a network of music conservatories in the Nordic and Baltic region, and the Global Music Education League (GMEL) – a network encompassing conservatories in North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia. Furthermore, RDAM has more than 50 bilateral agreements under the Erasmus Lifelong Learning Programme for student and teacher mobility. In special cases, RDAM also works to develop joint study programmes with carefully chosen partner institutions. Through the personal network of our teachers, RDAM collaborates on many levels in single projects and venues.

RDAM has inter-institutional agreements with conservatories in New York, Ohio, Iowa, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Sydney, Singapore, Jerusalem. Further agreements are expected to be formulated during the next years, thus adding a global perspective to the ongoing internationalisation.
