BACKGROUND

Lasse D. Hansen is a composer, lyricist, and radio host, born in Odense in 1991.

He is educated in composition, music theory, and pedagogy from the Royal Danish Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. Additionally, he has studied composition, ensemble conducting, and musical communication at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, Southern Denmark.

He has participated in workshops with music journalists from The New York Times and The New Yorker, as well as screenwriters from DR Drama. His articles, profiles, reports, and essays have been published by Klassisk, Seismograf, and New York Public Radio, among others.

Lasse D. Hansen lives in Copenhagen with his wife and their two daughters.

TEACHING

He teaches musical theater history, including dramaturgy, show analysis, musical playwriting and songwriting at the Danish National School of Performing Arts in Fredericia.

At the Royal Danish Academy of Music, he teaches music theory, harmony, and analysis/communication.

Previously, he taught musical communication for several years at the Danish National Academy of Music and composition at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory.

ARTISTIC PRACTICE

Lasse D. Hansen recently composed the music and wrote the lyrics for “Tuttis Eventyr” (Tutti’s Adventure), a half-hour symphonic tale with narration by Carl Quist-Møller, commissioned and premiered by the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra in June 2024.

At the age of 25, he made his symphonic debut when the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra premiered “Stemning, Applaus” (Tuning, Applause) for tuning orchestra and an interactively clapping audience. The concert received five- and six-star reviews in various newspapers and was highlighted as “Classical Concert of the Year” in the leading daily newspaper Politiken.

Since then, he has been the composer and lyricist for three short musicals in the Danish editions of the Broadway-based 24 Hour Musicals, as well as the composer and playwright for the music theater production “Face the Music”, which toured Denmark before playing at the MATA Festival in New York City with the ensemble Contemporaneous.

Other works include music and lyrics for the Royal Danish Theatre’s online performance “Karantæne” (Quarantine), recorded by the Royal Danish Orchestra as well as singers, actors, and ballet dancers from the theater’s ensemble, and “Dances of Remote Islands”, written for and premiered by the American ensemble Bang on a Can All-Stars.

Lasse D. Hansen has hosted over 350 hours of radio on the Danish National Radio’s (DR) P2, including the podcast series “Sessions”, where he exchanged music from around the world with 65 of the leading contemporary folk musicians.
