Lasse Mauritzen

Lasse Mauritzen joined the Danish National Symphony Orchestra as Principal Solo Horn in 2006. Lasse has performed a number of solo concerts with the orchestra over the years, latest in December 2017, where he played Richard Strauss Concerto for Horn No. 1 conducted by Fabio Luisi.

Lasse has played the horn since he was 8 years old where he got accepted to the world’s oldest youth guard, the Tivoli Youth Guard which is an internationally recognized elite youth ensemble. Growing up and going to school Lasse continued to play the horn in the Tivoli Youth Guard and he also received private lessons from Bjørn Fosdal and Ola Nilsson.

His passion for the horn and the music lead him to encounter Hugh Seenan, the former Principal Horn of London Symphony Orchestra, with whom Lasse since then has had several masterclasses with.

Lasse got his first professional position when he was still just a teenager with the Danish National Chamber Orchestra. And at the age of 21 years old he won the position as 2nd Solo Horn in the Royal Danish Orchestra, where he played until he became the Principal Solo Horn in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.

Next to his position in the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Lasse is a sought after guest at London's best orchestras. In the period 2006-2011 he has performed as "guest principal" at the first BBC Symphony Orchestra and later the famous Philharmonia Orchestra.

As a soloist, Lasse has performed both internationally as well as in Denmark, where he has played with the Royal Danish Orchestra and the Copenhagen Chamber Orchestra. Lasse is also a diligent chamber musician. He has played with cellist Andreas Brantelid and clarinetist Martin Fröst and has joined the newly launched Reinhold Friedrich Brass Quintet. In addition, Lasse has formed the Danish National Wind Quintet with four colleagues from the DR Symphony Orchestra. Lasse also teaches at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.
