Mads Høck
Mads Høck (born 1968) is the organist at Grundtvig’s Church in Bispebjerg, Copenhagen.
Mads studied church music and organ under Professor Hans Fagius at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. After earning his diploma in 1993, he continued with two years in the Academy’s Soloist Class, culminating in a critically acclaimed debut concert in 1995 at Copenhagen Cathedral, where he served as organist from 1994 to 2005. In 1997–1998, he studied French interpretation and improvisation with Professor Susan Landale and Dr. Naji Hakim in Paris.
Mads has recorded numerous CD's in collaboration with ensembles, choirs, and soloists, as well as solo albums featuring M. Duruflé's complete organ works, transcriptions of E. Grieg, and thematic albums with music by Bach, Mendelssohn, Reger, Franck, Gigout, and Vierne on the large Marcussen organ at Grundtvig’s Church. Since 2005, he has served as the organist at Grundtvig’s Church, where he has drawn thousands of Copenhagen residents to organ concerts featuring creative lighting design.
As a composer, Mads has written works for choir, orchestra, brass, and organ. Several of his works are published by Mixtur and have been recorded on CD.
As an educator, Mads has published a collection of hymn preludes in the Baroque style, as well as an inspirational book for creating hymn preludes in collaboration with colleagues at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Additionally, he is a part-time lecturer at the Pastoral Seminary in Copenhagen, where he teaches church music to future pastors.
