Peter Barnow
BACKGROUND
Peter Barnow is a trained tonmeister from the Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM) and holds a Master's degree in Studio Composition from Goldsmiths College in London. He works as a freelance music producer and sound engineer, runs his own sound studio in Copenhagen, and has many years of professional experience in live sound, theater, installations, and more.
TEACHING
Peter teaches Music Production, 3D Sound, and Spectral Aural Training in the tonmeister program. He is also affiliated with the Rhythmic Music Conservatory as a part-time instructor. In addition to teaching, Peter contributes to RDAM’s digital development projects and studio facilities, including concert streaming and the management and development of Distance Learning. He is actively involved in developing projects and education related to 3D sound/immersive audio.
RESEARCH
- From 2020 to 2022, Peter was part of the Artistic Research project 3D Audio Explored in collaboration with Hans Peter Stubbe Teglbjærg.
- In 2023-24, he conducted the Artistic Research pre-project PANORAMA.
- Further research is planned for 2025-26.
ARTISTIC PRACTICE
Peter has many years of experience as a music producer and sound engineer, working across a wide range of genres. In 2021, he was nominated for a Steppeulv award (Producer of the Year), and his productions have received awards and nominations from the Nordic Council Music Prize, Danish Music Awards Jazz, the P2 Listeners’ Prize, the Steppeulv Awards, among others.
He has worked with organizations and artists such as Copenhagen Phil, Athelas Ensemble, Scenatet, Studium Chorale, Figura Ensemble, Nordic String Quartet, Kottos, Marcela Lucatelli, Niels Rønsholdt, Juliana Hodkinson, Girls In Airports, Halvcirkel, Jakob Kullberg, Henriette Sennenvaldt, Efterklang, Solborg/Banke/Heebøll, Hand of Benediction, Dawda Jobarteh/Stefan Pasborg, Cirklen, SØSTR, Marcela Lucatelli, New Kids, Valby Vocal Group, Firebirds, Jeppe Just Instituttet, Mathiasen/Bruun/Snekkestad, The Royal Danish Theatre, and many others.
