How to apply - NON-EU/EEA applicants
To be admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Music, the very first step for applicants for a Bachelor's or Master's programme is to submit an application including requried documents and an audition recording according to the specific requirements.
As an applicant for an Advanced postgraduate (soloist) programme, you may also be called for a live entrance examination, in addition to meeting other admission requirements.
On this page, we have gathered all the information you need regarding application and admission – for both Bachelor's, Master's, and Advanced postgraduate (soloist) programmes.
Please note, that there are tuition fees for students with a non-EU/EEA citizenship. Read more below.
APPLICATION PROCESS
WHAT DOES AN APPLICATION CONSIST OF, AND WHAT SHOULD I PREPARE?
An application to the Royal Danish Academy of Music consists of an online application including an audition recording. There is no live entrance exams for Bachelor's and Master's programmes. The content varies depending on the level of education. You can read more about it below.
The application form must include the following:
- Attached documents: The documents you need to attach depend on the program you are applying for admission to. See the list of specific documents for your application
- Specification of repertoire. Read about the repertoire requirements under entrance exams
- Audition recording
- Set task: A mandatory piece of music to be be recorded and uploaded with your application. The set task will be available on this page 3 March 2025.
We recommend you to prepare everything for your application before 3 March 2025, so you can focus on the set task before the application deadline (10 March 2025).
Besides the submitted application, you may be asked to participate in a short, mandatory online interview and language screening. Read our language requirements

- Video recording of the entrance exam's first round
- Specification of repertoire. Read about the repertoire requirements under entrance exams
The practical entrance exam consists of the following parts, which must be passed to be considered for admission:
- Principal study
- First round (online video upload)
- Second round (in-person exam)
- Third round for applicants to the Soloist Artistic Research and the Soloist with teaching qualifications (advanced level) programmes

WHERE CAN I FIND THE APPLICATION FORM?
Applications for admission to the Royal Danish Academy of Music are submitted through the application portal, Studieoptag, by filling out the application form and paying the application fee (500 DKK).
Applications for Bachelor's and Master's non-EU/EEA full degree programmes are open from mid-January, while applications for Advanced postgraduate (soloist) non-EU/EEA full degree programmes are open from mid-February.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I HAVE SUBMITTED MY APPLICATION?
After the application deadline, two internal examiners will review and assess your application. We will contact you within two months after the deadline.
For Advanced postgraduate (soloist) programmes only
If you continue to the live entrance examinations, you will receive further practical information via e-mail.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE A RESPONSE TO MY APPLICATION?
RDAM receives more applications from qualified applicants than we are able to offer a study place. Information about admission is sent directly to applicants via email around 1 May, and for the Advanced postgraduate (soloist) programmes at the beginning of July.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I RECIEVE ADMISSION?
CONTRACT
- You will receive a contract by email. This is to be signed and returned if you wish to accept the offer of admission.
- When RDAM receives your contract, we will forward your invoices for the upcoming academic year.
- The first invoice covers the 1st instalment of the tuition fee and the Residence Permit Application Fee.
- The second invoice covers the 2nd instalment of the tuition fee.

TUITION FEE AND RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION
- When you have paid the 1st instalment of the tuitions fee and the residence permit application fee, we will begin your residence permit application. You will receive more information via email. It may take up to 2 months to obtain the permit, and you need it in order to begin your studies. We cannot start the residence permit application process before we have received your payment of the 1st instalment and the Residence Permit Application Fee.

HOW DO I PLAN MY STAY
When your contract and payment is taken care of you may want to start looking for accomodation. Unfortunately, RDAM does not have a campus, where you can live, but we have gathered usefull information about housing in the link below.

WHEN DOES THE ACADEMIC YEAR START?
The academic year always begins at the end of August. If you are admitted, you will receive practical information as well as details about the start of your studies and the orientation trip via email before the summer break.
