Prerequisites & regulations for admission

On this page, you can read about the prerequisites for admission at RDAM for the bachelor's, master's, and soloist programs, as well as the applicable regulations for admission.

GENERAL ADMISSION INFORMATION

The Royal Danish Academy of Music is a higher educational institution, which requires students to be able to independently and responsibly plan and complete their education.

There is no age limit for admission, but if you are under 18 when you apply, we expect you to meet the demands placed on students at a higher educational institution.

Music academies typically cannot admit all qualified applicants. Admission is primarily based on the results of the entrance exam, but other factors may also be decisive, such as specific needs in the music world and the Academy’s ability to create a balanced ensemble of instruments and voices for group performances, etc.

PREREQUISITES FOR ADMISSION TO THE BACHELOR'S PROGRAM

To be admitted to the bachelor's program, the only requirement is that you pass the entrance examination at the Academy.

PREREQUISITE FOR ADMISSION TO THE MASTER'S PROGRAM

To be admitted to the master's program, you must have completed a bachelor's degree and passed an entrance examination. If you have not yet completed your bachelor's degree at the time of application, you must upload a confirmation from your current institution stating that you will be able to complete the degree within the current academic year.
If you complete your bachelor's degree at the RDAM, you are granted direct admission to the two-year master's program in the same principal study. If you wish to change your principal study or if you have a bachelor's degree from another music academy, you must pass an entrance examination and meet the specific prerequisites for admission to the master's program you are applying to.

If you are an internal applicant for a master's program, you can find the admission rules in the Study Handbook on the intranet.
