Bach from bottom up - and bowings upside/down
Bach’s six solo works for violin (BWV 1001-1006) are diverse, complex and technically demanding. With this project, I am seeking a new common key to understanding and realising them.
The project will develop a form that allows the works to be rediscovered from a different angle, in which the original, unaccompanied solo part will provide the starting-point for the creation of a trio sonata – a three-part movement with two melody-bearing voices and a basso continuo part. The underlying harmonic and polyphonic structure of the original solo part will thus be illuminated and clarified.
The project will be communicated through the recording of both the original works and an arrangement of the works in trio sonata form.
