Organ Transcription of Symphonic Rock Classics
There is an emerging interest in breaking down the barriers for what can be played on the organ, and in this connection, there is also a demand for rhythmic music for the instrument. This project is an attempt to provide a qualitative proposal for how this demand could be met. The project aims to show that high-quality rhythmic music can to a great degree be played on a classical instrument. The innovative aspect is thus not the music itself, but the performance.
In the project, original rock music is rewritten for the organ, and I try to replace what cannot directly be transposed by means of “organ-like” instruments. It is interesting to see how symphonic rock music to a large extent rests upon a classical foundation, which means that the organ transcriptions have a relatively classical organ expression, while still being recognisable as rock classics.
