Debut Finnur Karlsson
Finnur Karlsson is a composer of instrumental and vocal music. His music has has been performed by ensembles like Brák Baroque Band (IS), The Danish National Symphony Orchestra (DK), Elektra Ensemble (IS), Esbjerg Ensemble (DK), Iceland Amateur Symphony Orchestra (IS), Iceland Symphony Orchestra (IS), íTríó (IS/DK), Loadbang (US), Reykjavík Chamber Orchestra/ Elblag Chamber Orchestra (IS/PL), Siggi String Quartet (IS) and TAK (US).
Finnur was the composer-in-residence at the Skálholt Summer Concerts music festival in 2015, and was nominated to the Icelandic Music Prize 2015 for Fold; the piece commissioned by the festival. Finnur’s 2017 orchestra piece till heavens changed have their course, which was written and premiered by The Danish National Symphony Orchestra was chosen as Denmark’s contribution to the International Rostrum of
Composers in Hungary in the summer of 2018.
Finnur graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in composition from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in the spring of 2012 and a Masters degree from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in the spring of 2015. Finnur’s main composition teachers have been Hans Abrahamsen, Úlfar Ingi Haraldsson, Atli Ingólfsson, Simon Løffler and Niels Rosing-Schow.
Finnur is, along with Bára Gísladóttir, Halldór Smárason, Haukur Þór Harðarson and
Petter Ekman, a member of the composer collective Errata.
