New organ professor joins RDAM with all organ pipes at full blast
On Monday 11th February 2013 Hans Davidsson plays his inauguration concert on the Marcussen organ in the Academy's Concert Hall. The evening will be one of the rare occasions, when the audience will feel the peal from the large organ.
The Royal Danish Academy of Music has been enriched with a great capacity.
The internationally renowned Swedish organist, Hans Davidsson, has returned to Scandinavia in order to join RDAM as organ professor in Copenhagen. This after more than ten years in USA, where he was professor at Eastman University in Rochester.
The first part of the concert is with music by Nicolaus Bruhns, César Franck and Maurice Duruflé. It is a repertoire pointing towards two of the special and important properties of the Marcussen organ: its roots in the northern European baroque and its orientation towards the French style from the eighteenth and first part of the nineteenth century.
The second half of the concert reflects modernity. Three great organ works from the sixties and seventies by György Ligeti, Olivier Messiaen and Torsten Nilsson, enclosed by Johann Sebastian Bach's Passacaglia and fugue in C minor.
Hans Davidsson is part of the international organists and teachers and is a leading capacity in his field. This appointment brings further strengthening to the already strong organ environment at RDAM. Futher to soloistic organ playing, Hans Davidsson has taught in organ repertoire, performance practice and organ building. Moreover, he has held musicological seminars and has been keynote speaker and guest speaker in several contexts.
Recently he was, together with his colleague organ professor, Bine Bryndorf, head of an international pedal clavicord seminar at RDAM.
