Niels Rosing-Schow has been appointed Professor of Composition as of 1st January 2013 at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. He is a marked personality in his field with an artistic career as composer at an international level with a large number of works that have been played in Denmark as well as abroad. Added to this is a longstanding and extensive teaching experience in teaching composition up to the highest level and a considerable work within artistic and pedagogical development as well as research. He has also through the years gained much experience within organization and management, which the annual new music festival PULSAR and Danish Composers' Society have benefitted from.
He was born in 1954. After his school leaving exam he went to the university to study music. From 1979 he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, partly music theory and music history and partly composition with professor Ib Nørholm as his main subject teacher and he had his composer debut exam in 1987. He also went on a study exchange in Paris during that time.
Niels Rosing-Schow is a much appreciated and very experienced teacher who since 1985 have been employed at RDAM, firstly as part-time teacher and since 1988 as associate professor. Originally he taught music theory and music history, but from 1990 he has taught many composer to the highest level, and he has also held workshops and given lectures several places both in Denmark and abroad.
He has been an active composer since 1974 with an extensive production covering several genres. Several of his works are in prints from Edition WH and Edition S. Apart from being performed at several concerts part of his compositions have also been recorded on CDs.
As a member of the Danish Music Council (1991-95) and the Danish Arts Foundation and especially as chairman of The Danish Composers' Society since 2008 he has shown strong attitudes and a considerable music political flair.
Niels Rosing-Schow has some exciting visions for further development of the subject composition and he appears altogether as an artistic personality who possesses the right qualifications to take up the assignment of professor at The Royal Danish Academy of Music.
