English language proficiency requirements for EU/EEA applicants
To be successful in their studies at RDAM, we recommend EU/EEA students to have an English level equivalent to a score of 5.5 IELTS. Find information on the IELTS levels here.
We recommend prospective students who are not fluent in English engage in English language practice before their enrolment.
English language proficiency requirements for Non-EU/EEA applicants
Non-EU/EEA applicants who wish to apply for a full degree study must provide documentation of a sufficient level of English language proficiency. Applicants can do this by providing documentation that complies with either 1), 2) or 3) below:
1) Applicants must submit documentation of ONE of the following test results:
IELTS Academic
Minimum 5,5 overall score
Minimum 5,5 in the speaking and listening components
TOEFL Academic internet-based test
Minimum 60 overall score
Minimum scores for each component: Listening - 14, Speaking - 17
LanguageCert International ESOL B2 (Communicator)
Overall pass
Minimum 50% for speaking and writing components
Besides the submitted test certificate, all applicants will also be required to participate in a short online interview and language screening. At the interview, you will be expected to:
- Demonstrate their ability to participate actively in a conversation
- Speak and give details about a general topic
- Express yourself clearly and in sufficient length and detail
The final assessement of the applicant's language sufficiency will be made on the basis of the submitted language test and language screening.
Please note:
The test must be taken no earlier than three years before the date of application.
We will conduct spot-checks to verify the submitted test certificates.
2) Applicants must submit documentation for having completed secondary or tertiary education in a school within a country, where English is an official language and the medium of instruction in secondary education. E.g. Canada, USA, England, Ireland, Scotland, Singapore, Australia or New Zealand.
3) Applicants must submit documentation for having completed secondary or tertiary education in a school within a country, where English is not an official language, but the medium of instruction is English. Examples of such schools are international schools in countries that do not have English as an official language. Applicants who provide this kind of documentation will be required to participate in an interview to determine their English language proficiency level.

Is my school education secondary or tertiary level?
To apply to RDAM, we refer to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) 2011, a framework developed and maintained by UNESCO. Secondary education is defined as ISCED 2011 levels 3-4, and tertiary education is defined as ISCED 2011 levels 5-8.

The secondary level of education is typically equivalent to the high school level, and tertiary education is typically equivalent to the university level.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS FROM THE DANISH IMMIGRATION AUTHORITIES
The Danish Immigration Authorities require that international students speak and understand the language of instruction.
When students apply for a residence permit, The Danish diplomatic mission may invite applicants for an interview to determine if their level of English is good enough to participate in an English taught course at an institution of higher education.
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE POLICY
International students at RDAM can expect that information the students are provided in both English and Danish. Furthermore, all programmes, except the Music Teacher Programme, are available in English.
Special arrangements with teachers are possible within these programmes. The main subject (principal subject) is conducted in English, and if needed, examinations are also held in English.
Students at RDAM can receive help with translation of information from the administration, teachers and fellow students. Students are in general responsible for keeping themselves updated on rules and regulations concerning their curriculum, exams, deadlines and such.

DANISH LANGUAGE COURSE
RDAM strongly advises our international students to participate in the Danish language currently offered to international students for free. Note that the participants will have to pay a deposit. Students will be informed about fees and practical matters at the beginning of the semester.
