Fulbright Students

American students at postgraduate level are able to apply for a Fulbright Scholarship to support their studies at The Royal Danish Academy of Music. Read more about the scholarship at the website of Fulbright Denmark's website.

DIS - Study Abroad in Scandinavia

DIS is a non-profit study abroad foundation established in Denmark in 1959 with locations in Copenhagen and Stockholm. Through our partnership, RDAM offers DIS Students the opportunity to study music with us. Undergraduate students from American universities in the study areas of Music Performance, Composition and Tonmeister/Sound Engineer can apply to The Royal Danish Academy of Music.

The course format will be coordinated individually between DIS and the Academy and therefore the courses may vary. Students may participate in concerts, performances and other extracurricular activities while enrolled at RDAM.

The study programme at RDAM is part time for one semester and equivalent to 15 ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System) or 6 American Credits. A study year equals 60 ECTS Credits.

DIS applicants must submit an audition recording with their online application. The audition repertoire for instrumentalists and voice applicants is free of choice within the classical western repertoire and should be maximum 15 min.

Instrumentalists and Voice applicants are required to submit video recordings. Please see our video with recording guidelines in the top right corner of this page. 

Composition applicants must submit audio files and the score of one or two composed piece(s) showing both technical and compositional skills. 

Tonmeister/Sound Engineer applicants must submit a production including a production plan. The production plan is a short document describing how the production was put together. It should incorporate a simple time schedule, a list of the equipment/software used and a list of the participants and their roles in the production (musicians, engineer, producer, composer et. al.). Also there must be a short description of the musical material and the context of the recording, for example: demo, concert documentation, release for streaming etc.

Requirements for the audition recording:

  • The audition recording must be unedited except between performances (i.e. between pieces), and the audition must be recorded within six months of submitting your application.
  • Applicants are not required to demonstrate the playing of broken triads, major and minor scales. The set test and sight reading assignment are also not part of the entrance examination.
  • Check that the recording submitted is accessible and that all recordings are successfully uploaded Accepted formats: mp4, mp3, mov, webm and mpeg.

DIS applicants must apply via the Academy's online application system, and RDAM does not accept applications through email or regular post. The Academy strives to provide the applicant with a quick reply, and strongly advise applicants to apply as early as possible.

Applicants to the Autumn Semester should expect a reply in late April, while applicants to the Spring Semester will receive a reply in late October. Please note that the DIS office will inform the DIS applicants of RDAM's decision.
