Applied Performance Psychology
During the Fall semester of 2022, 6 Workshops and 3 Performance Hours were conducted with the woodwind students of DKDM.
Qualitative pre- and post-test on their “knowledge”, “perspective of importance”, and “use of” mental performance methods and skills, as well as a quantitative follow-up questionnaire, were administered to the students. Questions and feedback from both students and teachers were much exercised throughout the course of the semester, to stimulate self-reflection beyond the participation in the Workshops and Performance Hours, on the part of both students and teacher.
The collected data will show whether the students’ have adapted the material to individual use, to face their mental challenges and move forward with increased focus on how to mentally be in a better place when it matters, i.e., both when rehearsing and on stage. The study will also attempt to offer some formalized methods for music teachers to gain insights into presenting and articulating topics under the “mental training” umbrella.
