Classical Artistic Research
The aim of the project is to provide a nuanced presentation of the issues and methods relating to artistic research in the context of performed classical music, as presented in the international literature on artistic research.
The specific issues that arise when performing classical musicians undertake artistic research are conceptually under-illuminated, both nationally and internationally. Much of the literature on artistic research in music is written from the perspective of the creative and improvisational disciplines. The performing classical musicians who carry out artistic research projects are thus pioneers who help to develop methods and gain experience in how to document and reflect on precisely what is artistically interesting for a performing classical musician.
Presenting and discussing these issues and experiences and placing them in perspective could thus raise awareness of the potential of artistic research in classical music performance.
