Bjarke Mogensen receives Honorary Award
Accordionist and teacher at RDAM Bjarke Mogensen is one of this year's recipients of The Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Honorary Award of DKK 1,000,000. In addition, composers Kirstine Lindemann, Signe Lykke and Bára Gísladóttir as well as musician Michala Petri and singer Stephen Milling will each receive an award. The awards will be presented at a gala concert on October 24 in Odense Concert Hall.
Accordionist Bjarke Mogensen is one of Denmark's most distinctive and versatile musicians. He made his debut concert from RDAM's soloist class in 2012 and has been teaching at RDAM since 2011. The board motivates the choice as follows: “Musicality is paramount when Bjarke Mogensen takes the stage with his instrument, the accordion. It can be as a soloist in a newly written work, which he performs with burning and captivating commitment or in a small fine sonata by Scarlatti, where after just a few bars you are convinced that it was originally written for the instrument and immerse yourself in his heartfelt interpretation, full of character and personality.”
The Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen's Foundation was established by the two artists' daughters in 1957. Every year, 3-6 honorary prizes of DKK 1,000,000 each are awarded. This makes Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen's Honory Award one of Denmark's largest private honorary awards for Danish artists. In all even years, the awards are given to Danish sculptors, in odd years the awards are given to Danish musicians and composers.
