New Nordic cooperation in music pedagogy to begin in August

MusiPæd, the new joint Nordic project, will begin on 8-13 August 2022 with a summer course for chamber music and strings at Voksenåsen in Oslo. MusiPæd is anchored at RDAM and will strengthen the Nordic pedagogical and artistic community in music education and heighten its visibility.

Through a cooperation between The Royal Danish Academy of Music and Voksenåsen Music Academies, MusiPæd will be established as a centre for Nordic music education and pedagogy. MusiPæd will be a meeting point where upcoming professional musicians can establish lasting and meaningful networks across the Nordic countries, thus benefitting individual musicians and the development of music in the Nordic region.

The pedagogical and the performing and creative disciplines are central to MusiPæd. The activities of the project will focus on the musical and artistic development of participants and their competencies in music pedagogy. Additionally, one of the project’s goals is to contribute to diversity and balance with regards to different parameters such as principal subject, professional focus, and gender in terms of participants’ profiles at the different events and courses.

Summer and winter courses focussing on Nordic music pedagogy

The project’s first course for chamber music and strings will be held in August at Voksenåsens Summer Academies. The next winter course at RDAM will be held on 23-27 Januar 2023:

- The winter course will focus on solo performance and chamber music for brass musicians. We will also aim to have participants be able to take with them a great amount of pedagogical knowledge. We’ve also been able to invite som of the best brass pedagogues as course teachers -, says Jesper Juul Windahl, artistic director of the winter course.

Synergy between MusiPæd and RDAM’s activities

MusiPæd is anchored at RDAM, where teachers have the highest artistic and pedagogical achievements. RDAM’s network of Nordic institutions and partnerships also it possible to engage the best talents from the Nordic region. MusiPæds activities will be integrated into RDAM’s activities, such as RDAM’s yearly music pedagogical conference for Danish music teachers, in larger-scale concerts and performances with a Nordic dimension, and in the presentation of projects related to pedagogical and artistic development.

The MusiPæd project has been received a 3,4 million DKK grant from the A.P. Møller and Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller Foundation, and is part of the foundation’s Nordic call in 2021.
