Newly appointed Professor of Voice at The Royal Danish Academy of Music

Helene Gjerris has been appointed Professor of Voice at the RDAM per 1st September 2016

Helene Gjerris is a prominent artist with a large experience within the fields of opera, lied and oratories. In addition, a substantial part of her career has been centered on contemporary music, among other as a member of The Figura Ensemble. She has performed as a soloist with all the Danish symphony orchestras and recorded a large number of CDs (not least Danish contemporary music) and over the years she has won and received numerous awards and honorary grants.

She graduated from RDAM with her soloist class debut in 1997. Since then her education has been supplemented with a master's degree in high-level singing teaching, also from RDAM.

Helene Gjerris is a highly appreciated and experienced teacher. She has worked as Associate Professor at RDAM since 2009 and, concurrently, as Full Professor of Voice at the Danish National Academy of Music from 2010 to 2016, from where she has experience as Head of Studies.

She has carried out interesting projects in both artistic and educational development activities, including projects with studying of Per Nørgård's vocal music, studying of graphically recorded scores and a 3-year educational development project on musical drama for singers and instrumentalists.

If one adds her inspiring visions for further developing vocal studies, the contours of a distinctive artistic personality appear. Helene Gjerris is indeed an artist with the right qualifications for a Professor at RDAM.
