Nightingale String Quartet awarded by Gramophone
Nightingale String Quartet was yet again honoured, when the quartet on 17th September in London was awarded the prize "Young Artist of the Year" by the world's leading music magazine for classical music, Gramophone. In connection with the award ceremony the string quartet was invited to perform with two other star soloists, the violinist Leonidas Kavakos and the flute legend James Galway.
Nightingale String Quartet has just finished the recording of the third and last CD with Rued Langgaard's collected string quartets. The CD's have become a great success with both listeners and critics and has received acknowledgement both in Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine.

Nightingale String Quartet was formed in 2007 and includes Gunvor Sihm and Josefine Dalsgaard, violins, MarieLouise Broholt Jensen, viola and Louisa Schwab, cello. Three of the members are soloist students at the Royal Danish Academy of Music with Professor Tim Frederiksen as mentor and chamber music teacher. Nightingale String Quartet was in 2010 awarded P2's Talent Prize for "with burning passion, irresistible zest and contagious mutual responsiveness in getting the classical string quartet to kick life into the music so that it speaks directly and strongly to both young and old listeners". Nightingale String Quartet has won prizes at several Danish and international chamber music competitions, such as P2's Chamber Music Competition and Charles Hennen Concours in Holland. In 2013 Nightingale String Quartet received The Music Critics' Artist Prize.
The violinist Gunvor Sihm has her debut concert on Friday 3rd October and she has both Nightingale String Quartet, the violinist Frederik Øland and Copenhagen Phil with her. The concert takes place in the Academy Concert Hall and the admission is free. Read more in RDAM's calendar.
