Advanced postgraduate programme

When applying for admission to the Advanced postgraduate (soloist) programme at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, you can choose between three different specialisations:

  • Soloist Performer
  • Soloist Artistic Research
  • Soloist with teaching qualifications (advanced level)

All applicants must attend the entrance examination in their principal study, which is taken in two rounds. If you apply for the specialisation Soloist Artistic Research or Soloist with teaching qualifications (advanced level), there will also be a third round in your chosen specialisation. You can read about the different specialisations and the content of the entrance exams below.

You may be offered admission to the Soloist Performer specialisation, even though you applied for one of the other specialisations. Admission to the specialisations Soloist Artistic Research and Soloist with teaching qualifications (advanced level) may depend on overall institutional priorities, where strategic considerations may also be included e.g. prioritised efforts within Artistic Research and the like.

All applicants must attend the entrance examination in their principal study, which is taken in two rounds. Round one and two are described under your principal study here.

These two rounds are the only entrance examination for the specialisation Soloist Performer. The second round ends with a five-minute conversation about the applicant's motivation for applying, career considerations, etc.. The conversation does not affect the grade but is used for mutual matching of expectations about the education.

Here you focus on developing your individual musical talent to the highest level, and you immerse yourself in an artistic research project.

All applicants must attend the entrance examination in their principal study, which is taken in two rounds. Round one and two are described under your principal study here.

The third round consists of a conversation about the applicant’s proposal for an artistic research project.

The applicant must submit a description of the desired project within artistic research in the application for admission. The project description should be 4-6 pages plus annexes.

The application must include:

  • A project description, including considerations of methodological and artistic issues
  • The applicant’s CV
  • Proposals for partners in and outside the Academy if any

The third round consists of a conversation about the project. The duration of the conversation is 30 minutes including assessment.

The third round is assessed by two internal examiners with pass/fail.

Here you focus on developing your individual musical talent to the highest level, and you receive tuition in pedagogy at the highest level as well as associated supervised teaching at the bachelor’s and MGK level.

All applicants must attend the entrance examination in their principal study, which is taken in two rounds. Round one and two are described under your principal study here.

The third round consists of submission of written material as well as a proficiency test in teaching.

The applicant must submit written material on 2-3 pages plus annexes in the application for admission. The written material must include:

  • A motivation letter
  • Pedagogical and methodological considerations regarding teaching practice
  • Any considerations regarding educational courses (including considerations of internal and external partners)
  • The applicant’s CV (in annex)

The proficiency test in teaching consist of three parts:

  • We provide a student on the bachelor’s level and a teaching assignment in your principal study. The assignment is known by the provided student. The assignment is emailed to the applicant a week before the proficiency test in teaching takes place.
  • A prima vista assignment in teaching. The assignment is known by the provided student.
  • The test ends with a five-minute conversation about the applicant's motivation for applying, career considerations, and pedagogical background, etc.. The conversation does not affect the grade but is used for mutual matching of expectations about the education.

The duration of the third round is 45 minutes including assessment.

The third round is assessed by two internal examiners with pass/fail.
