Andrew Crooks takes on the position as Head of the Royal Danish Opera Academy as of August 2024

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that a unanimous appointment committee among a very strong and competent field of applicants has decided to offer Andrew Crooks the position as Head of the Royal Danish Opera Academy as of August.

Andrew Crooks comes from a position as Visiting Assistant Professor (opera coach) at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Head of Music Staff at Cincinnati Opera, and a visiting coach for the Aotearoa New Zealand Opera Studio. From 2010 to 2017 Andrew Crooks was based in Germany, where he was among the music staff of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Komische Oper Berlin. He was involved in the chorus preparation for over 80 different operas, operettas, and musicals. He spent 2020-21 working as Head of Music for New Zealand and he has also worked for Wolf Trap Opera, Kiez Oper (Berlin) as well as the Washington National Opera. Andrew Crooks’ teaching experience includes three years as Assistant Professor of Music and Musical Director of Opera at Lawrence University, Wisconsin.

Andrew Crooks holds graduate degrees from Indiana University (MM choral conducting) and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (AD opera coaching) and bachelor degrees in music and German from the University of Otago, New Zealand.

Andrew Crooks will have onboarding meetings at the Royal Danish Opera Academy, the Royal Danish Opera, and the Royal Danish Academy of Music May 13-17.
