RDAM’s Concert Brochure for Spring 2025
At RDAM, we aim for our students to perform concerts in a wide variety of settings and contexts throughout their studies while also being exposed to a broad representation of styles and composers.
Our concert series clearly reflects this ambition, offering everything from grand orchestral and opera concerts with traditional repertoire to experiments with improvisation and composition.
There is a special focus on newly composed music on several occasions:
Audiences can look forward to the world premiere of The Play of the Night, a chamber opera by Britta Byström, commissioned by RDAM for the annual chamber opera production. This performance will feature all voice students alongside a chamber orchestra.
The PULSAR Festival, one of RDAM’s strong traditions, presents an abundance of diverse music composed by students from the composition class and performed by fellow students from other disciplines. The festival’s concerts take place in various halls at the conservatory and also extend into the city.
This spring also features the International Organ Festival, with concerts in the Academy Concert Hall as well as in several Copenhagen churches. A key theme of this festival is improvisation, with performances by some of the world’s leading organ improvisers.
Improvisation has been offered as an elective for all students this year, attracting significant interest. The BEYOND concert series, which launched in the autumn, continues into the spring, offering daring students the opportunity to create music on the spot in collaboration with teachers and specially invited guests.
Chamber music concerts will be held at RDAM, in Tivoli, and as part of the Wednesday Concert series, which continues its journey across various venues in Copenhagen.
RDAM’s many teachers have the opportunity to engage in artistic and pedagogical development projects, exploring specific areas of professional interest. This initiative, commonly referred to as FOKU, encompasses research and artistic development. Several events this spring will showcase these projects through concert lectures, performances, presentations, and the FOKU Festival.
At the very end of this concert season, a truly special event is scheduled: the Léonie Sonning Music Prize will, for the first time, be awarded to an ensemble – The Danish String Quartet. This quartet holds particular significance for RDAM, as three of its members are among our highly valued teachers.
For concerts not listed in this brochure – such as numerous student concerts and performances created by our master's students as part of their entrepreneurship coursework – you can stay updated via our website and social media.
Remember, you are always welcome to bring friends and family to RDAM’s concerts. We are happy to play for those who are not accustomed to attending classical concerts. Here, you may applaud whenever you feel like it – and leave if the experience becomes overwhelming.
Enjoy the music!
